Rainbow over Windmill

A view towards Barbon Fells facing Northeast with the Backsbottom Farm windmill just visible. This view can be seen by walking from Roeburnscar , through the garden, up the valley, right over the Roeburn at the footbridge, up the farm track to the farm buildings and onto the tarmac road which is Roeburndale West road. The walk is a round trip if you head back right onto the tarmac to Wray and the cottage. Other than the tarmac, all the walk is on the farm.
"We are like tenant farmers chopping down the fence around our house for fuel when we should be using Nature's inexhaustible sources of energy — sun, wind and tide. ... I'd put my money on the sun and solar energy. What a source of power! I hope we don't have to wait until oil and coal run out before we tackle that." Thomas Edison (1931)

Eva's Painting

Eva Ullrich , a young friend of ours, recently won the Royal Scottish Academy New Contemporary Artist of the Year award. We love her beautiful, acrylic abstracts and  we were lucky to purchase one of her paintings which is above the fireplace in the main house. Eva says that it was inspired by the Roeburn and intriguing pools near the house.

River Swimming

Welcome to Fiona and her family during their weekend visit in September. We were so pleased that they were our first paying guests after many months of extended work. Thanks to Fiona for giving us permission to publish some of her photos which were taken on a rare weekend when the sun shone . Some young members of the family ventured into the river and it looked like they were having a lot of fun. Is this really Lancashire ? Is this a newly discovered tribe in deepest, darkest Roeburndale?
